We proudly offer 105 beds spread over nine "houses," where our teams are committed to a person-centered care approach. With over 250 compassionate staff and volunteers, we provide specialized care, including Physiotherapy and Dietetics, ensuring every resident thrives.
A Legacy of Care: Our History
On October 28, 2011, The Meadows Home for Special Care opened its doors in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, marking a new chapter in compassionate care. Replacing the aging Tidal View Manor, once connected to Yarmouth Regional Hospital, this modern 105-bed facility brought a fresh vision of what long-term care could be—a true home where residents thrive in comfort and dignity.
Designed with the province’s Better Care Sooner plan in mind, The Meadows introduced a groundbreaking neighborhood model. Nine cozy “households” of 11 or 12 residents each surround a central hub, fostering a sense of community while ensuring privacy and accessibility. Residents enjoy spacious single rooms, a beautifully landscaped courtyard, shared kitchens, and vibrant spaces like a spiritual room and multi-purpose areas for activities that spark joy.
“This new home is a positive addition to the community,” said Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau at the opening, speaking for Health and Wellness Minister Maureen MacDonald. “The design is open and user-friendly, and the level of care here is exceptional.” Administrator Sandra Boudreau echoed this pride: “The new building is more comfortable and private... we’re in a residential neighbourhood, which is less institutional.”
The Meadows didn’t just transform the lives of its residents—it strengthened the Yarmouth community by hiring about 30 additional full-time staff, most from the local area. This growth was part of Nova Scotia’s $262-million Continuing Care Strategy, which aimed to add nearly 1,100 new long-term care beds across the province.
From 24-hour nursing to specialized physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and nutritional services, The Meadows continues to embody its mission of enriching lives every day. For those seeking care, access is simple through the Department of Health and Wellness’ single entry system at 1-800-225-7225.
"I love it here, the rooms are big and spacious. There is more privacy than we had before; it is wonderful."
- Kathleen Laverie, President of the Residents' Council, 2011
